The Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup is played to decide the British Open Polo Championship and is the premier polo tournament in the world at 22 goal (High Goal) level. With all the international stars of the game in action in the incomparable setting of Cowdray Park’s famous ‘Lawns’, the event draws in polo aficionados from all over the globe.
Newcomers to the sport could not have a more exciting introduction to polo and are encouraged to attend the 40 plus high octane matches opening on Tuesday 27th June and culminating in the Final on Sunday 23rd July which decides the winners of the coveted British Open title.
The opening match on the Tuesday 27th June is played for the Carlos Gracida Memorial trophy in honour of one of the sport’s most iconic former players and celebrating his outstanding talent and record-breaking 10 Gold Cup wins.
Other notable trophies that are played for during the tournament include the Midhurst Town Cup on Sunday 2nd July and the Argentine Ambassador’s Cup on Sunday 8th July. The Midhurst Town Cup has a special significance as it was presented to the club by the local business community in 1953 to recognise the prominence brought to the town by polo, while the Argentine Ambassador’s Cup, emphasises the strong relationship the polo community has with South America and their passion for the sport of polo. Local residents and newcomers are especially welcome to enjoy all these highlights.
The Semi-Finals of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup held on Wednesday 19th July showcase 2 thrilling matches which lead onto the much-anticipated Final on Sunday 23rd July.
