With winnings of £1.325m, the Investec Epsom Derby has one of the biggest prize in money in UK racing, matched only by the prestige that victory brings. It remains the one race that everyone wants to win and boasts an unrivalled roll of honour, from legendary names such as Seabird, Nijinsky, Mill Reef, Shergar, Galileo and more right up to 2016 hero Harzand.
Epsom Downs Racecourse came alive with roaring laughter as gates were opened for the 2017 Investec Derby Festival. Across the Queen’s Stand to The Hill there is an air of excitement all round, and 2018 will be no different.
A key focus of the day is the stunning fashion, celebrated with the annual Style Award competition. Abigail Scott, looking lovely in Ted Baker, took the 2017 title, winning herself a superb selection of prizes, including a luxury holiday to Mexico.
The racing held some exhilarating scenes with two Group 1 races, The Coronation Cup won by Highland Reel and The Investec Oaks, run in a dramatic downpour with Enable securing the win.
The day was finished off in style with a club classics DJ set on the Hyperion Lawn with Mark Wright at the official after party. Join us for Investec Ladies’ Day 2018 for even more glamour and exhilarating racing action.
One of the greatest race days and social occasions of the British summer calendar.
From the carnival atmosphere and picnics on the Hill, to top hat and tails in the Queen’s Stand and upbeat musical entertainment, topped off by a post DJ set from BBC Radio 2’s Jo Whiley, on the Hyperion Lawn in the Duchess’s Stand, the 2017 Investec Derby Day delivered a truly quintessentially British experience.
Amongst the seven races, The Greatest Flat Race in the World was crowned with a new winner, the 40/1 outsider WINGS OF EAGLES, ridden to victory by Padraig Beggy. It was another spectacular race to go in the Derby history books.
