Every August, the Edinburgh International Festival transforms one of the world’s most beautiful cities. The International Festival’s success is built on an uncompromising commitment to virtuosity and originality, inviting some of the finest creators and performers from the worlds of theatre, music, opera and dance to offer a unique experience for audiences.
In 1999, the Festival opened a new central box office and information centre in The Hub, a converted church on Castlehill, directly below Edinburgh Castle. Originally built as the Tolbooth Church (1842-44) to house the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, its tall gothic spire is the highest point in central Edinburgh (outside of the Castle) and a landmark visible for miles around.
The Edinburgh International Festival was brought forward to coincide with the Fringe in 2015
